14. Funding the hospice today

AUDIO

The hospice only receives a third of its funding from the UK’s National Health Service.

Every year St Christopher’s needs to fundraise £15million to be able to continue to provide its crucial services.

The hospice has a team of people committed to making this happen and one of the ways they raise funds is through organising events throughout the year.

Engaging with our community and bringing people together is at the heart of such events too; summer fairs which see children, families and pets having fun while raising money for the hospice, sponsored sporting days which bring people of all ages and backgrounds to get active together, and remembrance events which offer bereaved people and the community a chance to remember their friends and families.

We also have a network of 26 charity shops, receive support from trusts and foundations and are fortunate to be remembered in people's wills.

Gifts in wills account for a quarter of our funding each and every year and, without them, we wouldn't be able to care for people when they need us most.
