3. Reception

AUDIO

A key focus of the hospice was and still is to be welcoming; open to the public, and not a place for dying people to be hidden away and isolated. It was therefore vital that the first impressions visitors received was of openness.

This is just as important today, with the reception area playing a pivotal role. It is the first thing people see when entering St Christopher’s.

In 2007, to mark the 40th anniversary of the hospice, a large fundraising campaign was launched which saw the relocation of the reception area to where you’re standing now, and the creation of the Anniversary Centre which you’ll see straight ahead and is the next stop on your tour.

It’s a place for all and is always a hive of activity. The glass surroundings let in plenty of light and allow visitors to see through to the beautiful gardens.
