The Arts Pavilion is home to a range of therapeutic groups, led by the Art Psychotherapists and Music Therapists that work in the Psychological and Spiritual Services team at St Christopher’s. We offer individual, family and group sessions for patients, family members, carers and the bereaved.
Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses different art mediums as a bridge to communication, e.g. clay, paint, pastels, collage, bodywork. Through art-making with a therapist, people can express and explore difficult thoughts, feelings and mental health concerns. This is accessible to everyone as it’s all about the mark making and the process of creation - no art skills required!
Music therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses music as its primary mode of communication. Through music-making and engaging in a therapeutic relationship, people can explore, express and process feelings creatively. The music therapist will act as your guide, so no abilities to play an instrument or musical aptitude required!
Some of our popular ongoing groups include Mindfulness Based Arts Therapy group, Singing for Breathlessness group, Mothers group, Therapeutic Support group, Neurological group and Dementia group.
We also offer creative therapies in the music therapy room, on the wards or in a person’s home.
